A Equipa Coordenadora

Resumo (English):

In this article we analyze trends and differentials in religiosity by Christian denomination: Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox. Combining six measures of religiosity used in the European Values Study, we categorized young adult respondents as “religious,” “fuzzy,” or “secular.” We found that, in the most secular countries, the “religious” proportion has remained stable over recent decades; however, there has been a concurrent growth in the “secular” proportion—hence a shrinking of the “fuzzy” middle group. A postcommunist revival has continued in some Orthodox countries but abated elsewhere, while Catholic countries have shown greater declines than already highly secularized Protestant countries.

This article explores the theme of religious socialisation in an environment marked by modernity. It has three goals: first, to analyse the changes in religious socialisation across age groups; second, to analyse the impact of religious socialisation on religiosity; and third, to analyse the impact of religiosity on religious socialisation. Based on quantitative data about the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, results show the following: The level of religious socialisation increases with age, but young respondents have been significantly less socialised than older age groups; the level of religious education provided by respondents to their children increases with age; socialisation and religiosity are biunivocal, mutually reinforcing. In short, this article reinforces the theory of cohort replacement, which states that religiosity decreases in younger groups due to the decrease in religious socialisation over time.

Spiritual Representations in Rural Ecovillages: A Systematic Review

Autor: Tiago Pinto

Resumo (Eng): Using a systematic review methodology following PRISMA guidelines, the study examines the manifestations and significance of the spiritual dimension in ecovillages over the past decade. A total of 1329 articles were screened, and 49 were ultimately included in the final analysis. The findings suggest that people represent spirituality in three distinctive ways— in relation to nature, within community settings, and through individual expressions. The outcomes suggest that spirituality plays a vital role in ecovillage communities, enhancing personal resilience and ecological motivation whilst facilitating a more profound comprehension of sustainability. Recognizing the implications of the spiritual dimension within ecovillages is crucial to advance the knowledge and promotion of sustainable and regenerative lifestyles.

Resumo:

This study investigates the remnants and dynamics of religious beliefs and practices among religiously unaffiliated youth in Europe, comparing them with the older unaffiliated as well as with the religiously affiliated. Using EVS 2017–2021 data to test contrasting hypotheses of diffused religion and cohort replacement, the study draws three main conclusions. First, youth believe more on average and older age groups believe less when it comes to eschatological beliefs among both the unaffiliated and the affiliated. Second, youth practice less and older age groups practice more on average among both the unaffiliated and the affiliated. Third, the gaps in levels of religious beliefs and practices remain between the religiously unaffiliated and the religiously affiliated among younger populations, but this gap is now narrower for religious practices. Results confirm both hypotheses (diffused religion and cohort replacement) depending on the dimensions of religiosity at study.
